What is the purpose of this blog?
My goal is to provide well researched and bias-free articles while being transparent about my sources.
Background
I always had an interest in human history, especially antiquity and early medieval times.
When I started being interested into historical reenactment and began collecting equiment to enact a historically accurate wealthy viking, I learned a lot about researching and questioning sources. The early medieval period is a matter of heated debates and statements that contradict each other and I had to learn how to identify trustworthy sources in order to assemble a historically accurate kit.
But due to the lack of hard evidence from early medieval europe I quickly learned that also the trustworthy sources don't agree with each other, because many details are a matter of interpretation.
Even though I never studied history or archeology, I feel confident enough to say that professional historians and archeologists aren't always right. In the end, they are also just humans that have their own biases and make honest mistakes. Sometimes I find them not considering important details for their interpretations. Sometimes I find them (especially archeologists) making absolute statements, where absolute statements aren't possible.
This all lead to me gaining the motivation to make this blog. I want to present an alternative to established historians and mainstream media. If we leave history only to "professionals", we give them the power to tell us anything.
